THE  FINEST  ENGLISH  FOLK - POP  FROM  GRAZ
 What happens when two women from Graz go to London to play music
   on  the streets , in  the  underground , in  pubs  and  in  folk clubs ?

Austria a year ago they have been holding live gigs : two voices as clear as bells, accompanied by acoustic and electric guitar, piano and synthesizer . 
Their debut CD was basically homemade ,  taped  in eight tracks in the living room . They did every - thing themselves : music, text , and production .
Inspired by classic , jazz and folk , the ten songs mainly in English sound the way Suzanne Vega possibly always wanted to sound and maybe the way Tori Amos might sound unplugged .  Folk- Pop at its best ; simply great .

 The logical succession of  Alexandra  Brand´s and Vera  Montana´s artistic collaboration reached its peak with a CD resulting from their chance  meeting at London´s  Twickenham Folk Club .  Both,  after all , were trained at the Music Academy. Both went , independently  of each other , to England for the music and the language . Each had spontaneous appearances in  pubs and clubs as well as in the underground .  Vera´s  reason for forming the duo with the somewhat cumbersome name The Two Wings Of The One Swan : 
' We jammed  and  found out we fit together . ' Since  their  return to

 

´ W here do those two get their inspiration from ? 'one member  of  the  audience asked as he listened  and  watched   ' T he  Two Wings  Of  The  One   Swan '  singing  and  playing on the  stage of the  Café Atelier in Graz . Next to them a large window through which one saw the city traffic at a stand still or racing by and its  passengers excited with Saturday - Night - Fever .    
         Behind the cars the contours of the city park became clear enough to awaken an inkling of a nighttime forest -  and suddenly  it  was perfectly clear that the  two  young  singers , both  from lonely  parts of rural Styria ,  carried  meadows , forests , mountains  and  brooks  with  them  just  as some  of  the   chiseled figures on old cathedrals sometimes carry a castle or even a whole city under their arms as they go on their way .    That´s  how the  sounds of ponds , forests  and  its animals flow forth  from  the  throats  of  Alexandra  Brand  and  Vera  Montana  during their appearances . The touch of the  guitar strings and  synthesizer or piano  keys  weave a carpet of emotions and events from centuries ago until the present :

            ' 300 people were killed in a train accident / the officer ran away /
             fled the station /...FIROZABAD . '

            ´ You are the fire...burning me, burning me . '   

 A fresco by Piero della Francesca come to life .  The listener mentioned names as  his amazement and  admiration  heightened :  ' Fairport Convention ,  Pentangle , Incredible Stringband... '   
        ' ...they´ve  just looked  too  deeply into  the woods... '
        ' Yes ', the man nodded and added quickly as he saw the display of CDs ,
        ' I´ll buy one . '

The  Han-Shan-Press  put  THE TWO WINGS OF THE ONE SWAN  in their program because of their captivating texts .  At first we only wanted to publish the poetry of the two composers - singers , but then we had no choice :  a must for all of those who have almost given up hope in new music .
